Here we have some of the best stonework in Toledo. I'll be posting more pictures and some comments this weekend.

If your interested in church architecture you should read a great book that's recently been published in England, 'Sir Ninian Comper: an Introduction and Gazetteer' by Fr Anthony Symondson SJ and Stephen Bucknall. Comper was the greatest English church architect of the c20 who also did work in America. If you want to find out more type the title into Google and click on to Amazon. It's a great read, has wonderful illustrations and points to the renewal of church architecture. He knew more about late-medieval church architecture than any of his contemporaries and applied medievalism to his work. You can get it in the States through Oxbrow Books.

How amazing that anonymous mentioned that book on Sir Ninian Comper. I'd never heard of him but when I was in London a month ago I saw a copy in St Paul's Book Shop next to Westminster Cathedral and was awe-struck by the cover shewing an unbelievably beautiful church, St Mary's, Wellingborugh, in Northamptonshire UK. I bought a copy and was astounded I had never heard of this architect. I'm going to track down his work in the States. Fr Symondson is a brilliant writer and opened vistas in my mind. He's also orthodox. I want to mail him. Jeffrey, I love your blog. Try and track down the book and give it a puff, you'll love it.

When I was there recently, I didn't spend near enough time looking at the outside as I should have. And, I had my camera with me too...

I'll have to look for the book. Sounds interesting. I have some more good pictures of St. Patrick's to post when I get around to it.
